Nonprofit: Hamptons International Film Festival

Hamptons Film, founded in 1992, offers year-round screenings of global narrative and documentary films, a world-renowned 11-day film festival in October, a summer documentary program, a unique Screenwriters Lab, and extensive educational initiatives. Its programs seek to enlighten, educate, and provide invaluable exposure for accomplished and aspiring filmmakers, while also providing the East End of Long Island with an educational and cultural experience that enriches the lives of its citizens and contributes to the local economy.

 

Project: Increase Financing

Hamptons Film has grown rapidly and is now one of the world’s leading film festivals. To support this, Hamptons needs stronger financing. The brainstorming will identify opportunities for new or expanded contributed and earned revenue streams.

The objective of the session is to:

  • Recommend revenue growth opportunities around membership, year-round events, digital content, and licensing.

Nonprofit: ENGin

ENGin is a global nonprofit that helps Ukrainians of all ages improve their lives through authentic English-language conversation with volunteers worldwide.

ENGin’s innovative program has connected over 65,000 Ukrainians and fluent English speakers for mutually beneficial relationships at the intersection of language practice, cultural exchange, mentorship, and friendship.

ENGin connects English-speaking volunteers of all ages with Ukrainian English learners for weekly one-hour video chat conversations. Volunteers make a huge impact – helping their learners break the language barrier, offering friendship and emotional support, and introducing them to a new culture.

 

Project: Organizational Growth

Brainstorming participants will help identify ideas and options for attracting additional English-speaking volunteers for ENGin. Options may include establishing partnerships with other organizations and associations. ENGin has several existing partnerships that have been productive. Ideas for engaging effectively with partners to maximize interest and participation will also be addressed.

It has reached a pivotal phase of growth and expansion, necessitating innovative planning.

 

Nonprofit: National Lighthouse Museum

The Museum, founded in 2003, is located on the waterfront in the heart of New York Harbor, adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry. It draws visitors from all over the world to view the collection of lighthouse-related artifacts. This site itself is historical — which the Museum aims to preserve — from the Lenape people (the first Native Americans to settle here) to the Revolutionary War, the Quarantine Hospital era, and the U.S. Lighthouse Service (1864–1939).

 

Project: Awareness & Board Development

The brainstorming session will focus on developing strategies to raise awareness of the museum’s mission, recruit additional board members, and boost earned and contributed revenue.

The objective of the session is to:

Nonprofit: Harvard Business School Club of NY

The mission of the HBS Club of New York is to serve the 14+thousand alumni in the area, support the school, and serve the local community. The Club does all this with a wide ranging set of programs: pro bono consulting to many nonprofits and small businesses, 60+ networking and educational events, support for a large Alumni angel investor group, for alumni forums, and for HBS alumni startups, granting scholarships to HBS to nonprofit executives and fellowships to HBS students, and organizing a 500 person Leadership Dinner annually.

 

Project: Program Development

Use the HBS Club as a case study in how to analyze a nonprofit’s assets and their possible value to a company. Help CP develop a playbook for use in consulting work with nonprofits.

The objective of the session is to:

  • Start to build a group of practitioners as advisors

Nonprofit: Ali Forney Center

Ali Forney Center serves LGBTQ+ youth who flee their homes and end up on the streets of NYC, with 75% participating in survival sex. The Center offers emergency food, housing, and counseling, and a 2+ year program to prepare youths for independent living. It has 14 housing sites in NYC, but a 400-person waiting list for beds. This has prompted a strategic planning process to examine how the organization can best draw on its strengths and resources to help more youths in their hometowns around the US and globally.

Project: Expansion Strategy

Provide high level strategic evaluation of the pros, cons, risks, and opportunities of three growth models:

  • Expand a successful technical assistance program to help others build programs
  • Open regional Ali Forney fundraising, advocacy, and training hubs
  • Open centers in the Ali Forney name and hand them over to others longer term

The objective of the session is to:

  • Evaluate three defined expansion pathways

El Taller is a NYC arts and education institution. Its purpose is to bridge the gap between Latin and North Americans through the languages of art, dance, and music.
El Taller offers its community a varied menu of Spanish language classes, arts programming, and music. They seek not only to educate, but also to gather diverse groups together culturally and linguistically on the common ground of creativity. Its programs are for all ages.

Project: Location Strategy

During covid El Taller had to relinquish their long time headquarters. Their operations are now funded on an ongoing basis, and they wish to get a new base. The brainstorming will help decide whether this is realistic, whether to buy or rent, and how to organize a capital campaign.

The objective of the session is to:

  • Determine the financial feasibility of obtaining long-term space
  • Deciding on renting or buying

Nonprofit: The Tell Institute

Acclaimed, award-winning author, scholar, and lecturer Dara Horn launched The Tell Institute to significantly reframe what students and the broader public know about Jewish civilization, the dynamics of antisemitism for 2500 years, and the ideas that shape free pluralistic societies. The Tell has developed eight lessons based on Horn’s ideas, which it is piloting in select schools. Hundreds of inquiries have been made by those wishing to be partners or “Ambassadors” in teaching these ideas in and beyond educational settings.

Project: Strategy and Organization

The Tell Institute seeks assistance in creating a framework for launching and structuring its Ambassadors Program, which would include educators and leaders in community, business, religious, and cultural sectors nationwide. The aim is to transform grassroots passion into a sustainable national network for change. Experience in franchising is particularly welcome.
